Why is openly criticizing the president such a taboo in the US? This can be why you refrain or why you believe others refrain.

“As President, he needs to be respected.”

“It’s not worth saying anything.”

“Lack of support for him is lack of support for the country.”

“He’s the best thing for our country right now.”

“He may be vile, but his policies are good.”

“It’s un-American to criticize our highest office.”

“I’m not into politics and am indifferent.”

“Employers don’t want to hire someone who does so.”

I don’t think it should be taboo

All presidents have received criticisms, including our founding fathers (may not be president but they are the creators of this great nation). No human is perfect.

I believe some people think that if you support the party, you MUST support everything about a certain official (otherwise others will criticize you)

I think the issue is unfairly criticizing a president, and when it gets to a certain degree its just "im a democrat or republican voter and I'll harshly criticize anyone who doesn't agree." But fundamentally it is a great right and should never be alienated. Morally though, it should be a question to oneself if they are spreading propaganda for confirmation bias rather than than the exact truth.
