I went to a church and listened to choir (not related to the church) perform tonight. During intermission, I used my cell phone in the church while the majority of attendees were getting sodas and cookies. Is this rude?

Yes, were you born in a barn? It's a place of worship not a place for cell phones!
No, it wasn't a religious service, it was intermission and you were innocently checking in on your daughter.
