Why is the US in Afghanistan, Iraq and eyeing up Iran?

1. Oil, there is no geopolitical reason to be in these states and any talk of projecting democracy and freedom is a façade whether it’s Obama or Bush doing the talking.
2. The US has an ideological mission to promote democracy and freedom for all. Human rights are at the heart of the US international policy decisions. If they don’t protect human rights who will?
3. The Cold War has been replaced with a battle of civilisations. These countries represent the front of the war between western Christian democratic values and Islamic values.
4. The US fears more nuclearised states and the proliferation of nuclear weapons. Do we really want another North Korea, this time in a truly valuable energy rich part of the world?
5. China is close with these states. They won’t support sanctions against Iran. If the US doesn’t balance in the region militarily then China will make further inroads in the region and lock in long term energy deals through strengthening of organisat
