What do "Designated Routes" on National Forest mean to you?

I may travel where ever I need, the Forest Service simply designates us of roads and the forest remains open to wood retrevial, big game recovery, general "cross country travel"
No "cross country travel" is allowed off of "Designated Routes" and I will only be allowed to travel down roads the US Forest Service designates a use for.
