How do you feel about shared universes between an author's books?

Love them! The more everything ties together the more I feel like I'm part of the author's world.
I don't mind when I find a character or event here and there that ties in to another novel, but don't overdo it.
No, just don't. I don't want to feel like I'm missing out on something if I can't track the significance.
Keep connectivity only to series. Sometimes I just want a stand alone novel, nothing bigger.
