I got a allowance but had to put some in savings before I could spend any.

I was paid by my mom to babysit my little brother and sister. I was paid $20 each time. I was never paid by dad until I was a teen and then it was only $.25/week. And we had daily chores. Sunday was the only day we had “off”. I was never told what I could or couldn’t spend money on. It took me 2 weeks to save enough to buy a can of soda at school. And when I got money from my mom I blew it on candy and stickers. Lol

I learned to save money but I worked for it to. Was not given an allowance. I earned money by babysitting or backrubs or cleaning houses etc.
