Why Has Linux Struggled on the Desktop?

Too many distributions to choose from
Too many GUIs to choose from
Too much command line crap
Lack of "high-end" apps (CAD, Desktop Publishing, etc)
It's a Cabal thing (M$ and others spreading FUD)
