What do you think about proposed government legislation compelling Internet service providers (ISPs) to report to police any tips they receive about websites hosting child pornography?
Good idea. Doctors and nurses are legally required to report suspected cases of child abuse and ISPs should be, too.
Bad idea. Child pornography is detestable, but this is a slippery slope to Big Brother having unfettered access to all our private information.
It’s about time. This is a case where the public’s—especially our children’s—safety overrides individual privacy rights.
Good idea, wrong target. We should be cracking down on child pornography hosting websites, not ISPs, most of which already report child pornography tips voluntarily.
