Abigail Fisher, who was rejected from UT-Austin in 2008, sued the school, saying she was unfavored because she is white. 75 percent of the University's incoming freshmen are admitted because they were top students in a public high school, and the remaining 25% are admitted through a review process that considers race, SAT scores and other factors. A ruling against UT-Austin could be used as an argument to eliminate affirmative action — the practice of giving minorities, especially Hispanics and blacks, a modest boost in admissions – in universities across the country.
