In a Facebook poll of 3,769 respondents, 13.4% chose “İstanbul 34”. How we count
Eighty-two cities competed for one answer to 'where are you from,' and nobody came close to a majority. İstanbul topped the field with just 505 votes — 13.4% of 3,769 — while Ankara trailed at 9.6%. From there the field disintegrates fast: 15 options never cracked 30 votes, and Kilis pulled just 2. This was never a two-horse race; it was 82 horses and a photo finish for last.
The top two drew different rooms: among İstanbul's gender-tagged voters, a quarter were men; every gender-tagged Ankara voter was a woman. Geography told its own story too — Turkish voters clustered on İstanbul, but the handful from the US, Netherlands and Slovakia scattered abroad, backing Bilecik, the 'Abroad' option, and Düzce respectively.
- No mandate · Winner İstanbul took just 13.4% of 3,769 votes across 82 options
- Gender split · İstanbul's tagged voters were 25% male; Ankara's were 0% male
- Long tail · Kilis got 2 votes; 15 options never reached 30
- Expat signal · Foreign voters scattered — backing Bilecik, Abroad, and Düzce, not İstanbul
