Istanbul topped the field at 16.7%, but that's a plurality clinging to a fractured map, not a mandate — 81 other cities carved up the rest, with Ankara a distant second at 8.6% and nobody else past 7%. Fifty cities finished under 1% apiece, each still pulling real votes.
The two leaders drew different rooms entirely: Istanbul's crowd ran mixed, women included, while Ankara's recorded voters were men, full stop. Add in Türkiye supplying the bulk of geo-tagged votes with pockets from the US and North Macedonia, and this reads less like a two-city rivalry than dozens of local loyalties never merging into one.
- Fractured plurality · Winner Istanbul took just 16.7% against 81 rivals.
- Long tail · 50 cities each drew under 1% of the vote.
- Gendered gap · Istanbul's voters were mixed; Ankara's were all-male on record.
