Alessandro Del Piero opened at 55% on day 1 and just kept building — 56% by day 3, 58% by day 8, holding there through day 17. Zero lead changes across 5,497 votes: Michel Platini sat a distant second the entire race, finishing at 18.4% against Del Piero's 57.8%, with Nedved, Baggio, Zidane and Scirea all fighting for scraps below 8%.

The gender split tells its own story: Pavel Nedved pulled the most balanced backing of any top finisher (12 of 58 voters female, ~21%), while Zidane's support ran almost entirely male (39 of 41, ~5% female). Geography was nearly monolithic for Del Piero — Italy, the US, Germany, the UK all leaned his way — except Switzerland, the lone stronghold that broke for Platini.

  • Wire-to-wire leader · Del Piero led at 55% on day 1, never once fell behind
  • Nedved's female pull · ~21% female share, the most balanced base of any top-5 name
  • Switzerland breaks pattern · Only major country leaning Platini over Del Piero
  • Runaway margin · Final gap: 57.8% to 18.4%, more than 3-to-1 over Platini
