Best Re-Write Challenge for "I felt the rain raining down on me."

Gentle at first, but soon big, laughing splashes. A soaking, cleansing rain for its own sake. As if it didn't matter that I was there at all.

I felt a tiny droplet on my hand, so light that I wondered whether I had imagined it. When no more drops fell, I became convinced that it had either been a passing bird or the passing of my sanity. Then, as quickly as the thought had formed, the heavens burst in a drenching deluge, God's vengeance upon my freshly drycleaned suede coat. I flipped off the heavens and sprinted toward the safety of the Pontiac.

Tears the heavens dared not shed for months cascade from the darkened sky, drenching me from head to foot. I turn my face upward, embracing the way eternity tries to pour itself into me.
