We were walking about the harbour front in the early evening and the light happened to be vividly reflecting off a fireboat (red and blue) and a ferry boat (yellow). It gave the water a rich mixture of primary colours which lasted only a few minutes. While I was trying to capture this image a cormorant surfaced in the harbour adding a perfect touch of black.

2 Years ago on the way back from shooting Takakkaw Falls in Yoho national Park BC I noticed a beautiful Black Bear roaming the side of the road. I pulled to a rest stop ahead, walking the embankment back I found the little guy having a nibble on plants below. The drop was around 6 foot and had a fence between us. He was paying us no mind and was doing his thing when the person I was with made a noise that got his attention. He stood up on on his hind legs and was now level with my feet. I put myself between my friend and him telling her to go to the car, just before I started to retreat I managed to grab a quick frame. He looked like he had so much personality in this moment. One of the most touching and invigorating moments of my life.

This is my daughter Lyric who just turned 10 and is the most passionate animal lover I know. Her passion started when she was 6 and I took her to the BeliZe Zoo which is all rescued animals and a large rehab program. She came home and raised $600 dollars to give to the BeliZe jaguar rehab. She also started a bank account for her own animal rescue and rehab. She still spends hours drawing blueprints and plans for her future animal rescue centre. I'm a single mom but we decided as a family to prioritize travel and animal travel specifically and all her bday/CHRISTMAS presents for 4 years have been animal related. She's been to the Azores to watch the blue whale migration, visited elephant sanctuaries in Asia, and swam with wild whale sharks in the Phillipines. She asks people to sponsor animals from WWF any chance she gets. Following this passion of hers has meant we don't buy new toys or clothes but it hasn't been a sacrifice. It would mean the world to her to meet Dr Goodall and I think would further her passion and encourage her to keep following her dreams. This pic was taken 6 weeks ago in Thailand and the elephant was retired from a hard working life, felt a connection to Lyric and offered her a walk down to the river where they swam together for an hour.

I'm an animal-loving girl who is studying in Grade 7. Here is my wildlife picture of a House Finch living in a Saguaro Cactus hole. I toured Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix,Arizona. This is an exellent example of living things interacting with each other in a desert ecosystem. The House Finch didn't make the hole, though. Gila Woodpeckers peck a hole in a cactus. The woodpecker lives in the holeĀ for a while, then moves out. Then, other animals such as Owls, European Starlings, Insect-Eating Bats, Mice, small songbirds, and insects occupy the cavity. The nesting cavity is well insulated from heat and cold. I 'm very lucky to have a picture taken of a beautiful House Finch insde a Saguaro Cactus cavity.
