One of my newer co-workers is hosting a holiday party for us all. We haven’t had a work Christmas party in years. She’s asked everyone to bring a bottle of their favourite alcoholic beverage, and we’ll pull names out of a bowl for each one. I asked for guidelines such as size limit, type (wine, hard liquor, etc) so the exchange would be fair, and she has flatly refused. If I bring my favourite $10 bottle of wine, and someone else brings a 40oz bottle of high end (or even low end) vodka or gin, there’s going to be hard feelings on both sides. What would you do?

Bring a more expensive bottle so you won’t feel cheap, even if you end up with something cheaper.

Bring the wine, but choose an equivalently-priced bottle when your name is drawn.

Bring the wine, and choose what you’d like, price notwithstanding.
