In a Facebook poll, 12.4% chose “Beograd”. How we count

· Share: ···

Two cities finished six votes apart out of 3,137 cast — Beograd's 388 edging Smederevska Palanka's 382, a lead that flipped twice across 137 days before settling late. But the real gap isn't in the count, it's in who showed up: Beograd's sampled voters skew male (42%), while Smederevska Palanka pulled an almost entirely female crowd (92%).

Neither city won a mandate — 12.4% was enough to top a fractured 25-option field where places like Sombor barely cracked 1%. And the loudest regional bloc didn't even back the winner: Serbia's 71 voters, more than any other country, leaned toward Sabac instead, proof that home turf didn't decide this one.

  • The Margin · 388 to 382 — six votes separated first and second
  • Gender Split · Beograd skews male (42%); Smederevska Palanka nearly all female (92%)
  • No Mandate · Winner took just 12.4% of the vote across 25 cities
  • Home Turf Dissent · Serbia's largest voting bloc backed Sabac, not the winner
