In a Facebook poll of 2,494 respondents, 42.5% chose “Contestant #1 Ruth Fa'atiga Meet the Miss American Samoa contestants of 2015!Contestant #1 Ruth Fa'atiga, 26 Posted by Bluesky Communications on Tuesday, October 13, 2015”. How we count
Two contestants split 2,300+ votes, and the split wasn't chronological — it was who showed up. Ruth Fa'atiga's coalition ran 36% male, unusually balanced for this poll. Salumalo Paleso'o Savusa's backers were the opposite: 79% female, a near mirror image, and still enough to hold second at 22%.
The gap opened almost immediately — Ruth built a 36-41% lead by day 6 and the standings barely moved for the next 17 days. But the real story isn't the early plateau, it's that two very different rooms were voting: one that looked like a typical crowd, one that was overwhelmingly women, and they never converged.
- Gender split · Ruth's voters ran 36% male vs. Salumalo's 21% male
- Early plateau · Lead set by day 6, unchanged for 17 straight days
- Runner-up's base · 432 of 547 Salumalo votes came from women
