In a Facebook poll of 39,338 respondents, 52.4% chose “Marco Carta”. How we count
Marco Carta grabbed a huge early lead — 54% on day one — and never let go, cruising to a final 52.4% over 20,631 votes. His nearest rival kept shifting: Virginio Simonelli chased hardest at the start, but by day 5 Annalisa briefly overtook him for second, only for a day-5 surge to reshuffle the board entirely.
The real twist came from Gerardo Pulli, who exploded from near-zero to second place by day 6 and held that runner-up spot all the way to day 22 — despite finishing with a mere 0.2% of total votes. Virginio Simonelli recovered late to actually claim second overall at 32.1%, proving early sprints don't always hold. Voters skewed overwhelmingly female across every option, and Italy dominated the map almost entirely.
