Three thousand fans splintered across 129 DJ names, and it still ended in a near-tie: Martin Garrix's 357 votes beat Alesso's 356 by exactly one ballot. Neither built a real lead — Alesso topped the count for the first 12 days, Garrix nosed ahead on day 13, and the gap never widened past a single point for the next 23 days.
Peru cast nearly half the electorate's votes and wanted Hardwell, not Garrix — the winner had no mandate in the country that showed up hardest. Garrix's edge came from elsewhere: women picked him at more than double the rate of any other finalist, 76 of his 357 votes, the one demographic split sharp enough to swing a race this close.
- Margin of victory · 357 to 356 — Garrix beat Alesso by a single vote
- Fragmented field · 129 options on the ballot; the winner claimed just 11.4%
- Peru's real pick · Peru, the largest bloc, backed Hardwell — who finished 5th
- Women broke for Garrix · 21% of his votes were women, versus ~9% for rivals
