Player of Round 8 - VELUX EHF Champions League 2017/18
In a Facebook poll of 2,940 respondents, 48.7% chose “CB: Mate Lekai (Telekom Veszprém)”. How we count
Mate Lekai closed at 48.7% and Zsolt Balogh at 40.3% — together the two Hungarian backs swept 89% of all 2,940 votes, with the gap between them barely moving from a 51-point spread on day one to 49 by the close. Hungary alone cast 1,633 votes, well over half the poll, and voted almost exclusively along those two lines.
Beneath the shared nationality, the two drew differently. Lekai's backing ran 62% female and pulled nearly a fifth of its votes from self-identified fans of his club, both well above Balogh's more even, less fan-driven split. Third place told its own single-country story: North Macedonia's 152 votes did most of the work building Vuko Borozan's 233 total.
- Hungarian sweep · Two Hungarian players combined for 89% of 2,940 votes
