Antonio Areia's win came from a coalition that looked nothing like Roland Mikler's. Areia's voters were 77% male and almost entirely casual — just 2% called themselves fans. Mikler's camp ran near even between the sexes (45% male) and drew fans at ten times that rate, 22%. Portugal (803 votes) and Hungary (733) each showed up for their own guy.
The numbers hid a real fight underneath: Mikler actually led out of the gate, taking day one at 51% to Areia's share. Areia's push flipped it by day two and held, closing 49.3% to 36.5% — a 13-point gap built on who showed up, not just when.
