In a Facebook poll of 4,777 respondents, 12.4% chose “Cross Eyed Mary - Wellington”. How we count
Cross Eyed Mary and The Avenue Eve spent the back half of this poll trading the lead like a tennis rally — six flips in total, the last one landing on day 54, just five days from the close. When the counting stopped, Cross Eyed Mary held on by a single vote: 592 to 591, out of 4,777 cast across 59 days.
New Zealand cast the largest bloc of votes and leaned toward The Avenue Eve — so did the next two biggest blocs, the U.S. and Australia. Only the far smaller U.K. and Canadian contingents favored Cross Eyed Mary. It was enough. With 50 acts on the ballot, neither finalist even cracked an eighth of the vote — a wafer-thin win in a genuinely split field.
