Then on day 38 of 40, Bruno Mars - 24K Magic overtook it and held on, finishing with 140 votes to D.A.M.A.'s 134 — a 5.3% to 5.1% margin, six votes apart out of 2,645 cast.

With 51 songs splitting the vote, that margin means the winner satisfied barely one in twenty voters — a plurality, not a mandate. Portugal, the poll's largest single bloc, didn't back the champion at all: its votes clustered around Diogo Piçarra - Dialeto, the song that briefly led on day 6 before fading.
