In a Facebook poll of 2,934 respondents, 15.5% chose “İstanbul 34”. How we count
This wasn't a two-horse race — it was 82 of them. İstanbul 34 opened with 17% on day one and closed 59 days later at 15.5%, a lead so structurally stable it never moved more than a couple points either way. But structural stability isn't the same as dominance: over 84% of the 2,934 votes went somewhere else, scattered across 81 other cities.
Ankara 06 held a distant second the entire way (9.9% at the finish), and after that the field disintegrates fast — İzmİr at 6.4%, then a long tail where 45 cities never even cracked 1%. Nine options — Ardahan, Kilis, Bayburt among them — pulled in fewer than 3 votes total. The story here isn't a rivalry; it's how thin a 'winning' answer can be when the ballot has 82 doors.
- Fragmented plurality · İstanbul won with just 15.5% — under 1 in 6 votes
- Rock-solid margin · Lead held within 1-2 points for all 59 days
- Long, thin tail · 45 of 82 cities never reached 1% of the vote
