No film came close to a majority. A Origem topped a ten-way field with just 28.2% (1,254 of 4,443 votes), edging Tropa de Elite 2's 20% and Harry Potter's 15.4% — and the other seven options combined for more votes than the winner alone. The margin barely moved across 22 days.
Stranger still: Brazil, the poll's biggest single voting bloc at 168 votes, didn't back the champion at all — it leaned Tropa de Elite 2. A Origem's real strength came from the United States' 84 votes, meaning the trophy went to a film that lost the room where it was made.
- Slim mandate · A Origem won with just 28.2% against nine rivals.
- Home turf revolt · Brazil's largest bloc backed Tropa de Elite 2, not the winner.
- Male-dominated ballot · A Origem's voters ran 96 men to 8 women.
