As I'm sure many of you know, FDOT is currently looking at options to replace the existing Cortez Bridge. From the website, http://www.cortezbridge.com, Due to the naturally corrosive salt water environment, the bridge continues to deteriorate and will need additional repairs in the future. The condition of the bridge is anticipated to deteriorate further as the structure has exceeded its 50-year service life. Rehabilitation or replacement of the bridge will address the condition of the structure and reinforce the connection between Anna Maria Island and the mainland of Manatee County.... Replacement alternatives still under consideration include a 35-foot vertical clearance drawbridge and a 65-foot vertical clearance fixed bridge within the existing corridor. It seems many people, John Banyas and myself included, are leaning toward the fixed span option, what do you think?
