The condition of the bridge is anticipated to deteriorate further as the structure has exceeded its 50-year service life. Rehabilitation or replacement of the bridge will address the condition of the structure and reinforce the connection between Anna Maria Island and the mainland of Manatee County.... Replacement alternatives still under consideration include a 35-foot vertical clearance drawbridge and a 65-foot vertical clearance fixed bridge within the existing corridor.
