The 4:0 win over Ireland opened at 71% on day one and closed the poll at 72% — a three-point drift across 2,590 votes and 52 straight days. Nobody else came close: the nearest challenger topped out at 7.9%, meaning the leader outpolled all four rivals put together by better than two to one, start to finish.

Part of why: the chasing pack split itself. Two of the five finalists were the same fixture, Italy vs. Germany, at different scorelines (3:3 and 3:2), splintering the anti-favorite vote instead of consolidating it. Fans in Germany, Austria, the US and Switzerland all landed on the same clip, giving the winner a geographic lock nothing else in the field could match.

  • Day-one margin · Led 71% on day one, barely moved to 72% by the end
  • Runner-up gap · Beat the second-place clip by more than 9 to 1
  • Split opposition · Two Italy-Germany replays (7.9%, 3.9%) divided the challengers
