Yu-Na Kim (No. 4 seed) didn't just win, she buried the field: 3,059 votes to 113, a margin that was already locked in at 92% on day one and never dipped below 96% after that. Across 3,172 votes and four days, Ekaterina Gordeeva/Sergei Grinkov (No. 1 seed) never once had the lead to lose.
Yet the poll's biggest voting bloc missed the memo. United States voters, the largest single country group, leaned toward Gordeeva/Grinkov — as did the UK's. Only smaller pockets in South Korea and Romania backed Kim by country. And Gordeeva/Grinkov's support skewed entirely female: 0 men, 17 women, versus a mixed 3M/8F crowd behind Kim.
