Ilusión Cruz won with just 19.4% of the vote — in a field this crowded, that's the ceiling, not a mandate. Second-place Cecilia Callejas trailed by exactly one point, 561 votes to 533. Out of 2,896 ballots cast, 28 votes was the entire gap between champion and runner-up.

Getting there took three separate leaders. Carmen Mántica opened with a 50-point lead on day one that evaporated by day two, when Ilusión took over. Cecilia grabbed the top spot for a three-day stretch through day 6, but Ilusión reclaimed it on day 7 and held on for the final three days. Nicaragua backed Ilusión all along; U.S. voters favored Cecilia.
