A 62 year old man is brought to the admissions unit with a 3 day history of headache, confusion and abnormal behaviour. He was previously fit and well. He is found to have a temperature of 38.5⁰C and on examination he is confused but does not have any focal neurology, signs of raised intracranial pressure, or neck stiffness.
