It is a democratic right but what it is with election posters and the scramble we see around every election that has just about every pole in the district decorated with the heads of candidates staring back in all manner of poses from the stiff to the very softly lit. Some even give the humble Stobie pole a challenge in the appearance stakes but we are certainly fortunate that our legislators had the foresight to prohibit them being stuck on trees and spare us the blight of rough heads and promises beaming out from among the trunks and boughs in displays that might otherwise offend mother nature herself. I have never seen a poster that has inspired me or changed my vote. With the voter turnout at the last Council election in Mount Barker down to 26.5% I’m not all that sure they’re inspiring anyone else either. They may have had their place, once, but I think times have changed and candidates have much better ways of communicating with the community. As a voter do they make a di
