Every day mattered early: 900 million grabbed the lead on day one at 40% share, briefly lost it to 9 billion on day 12, then reclaimed it by day 13. From there the standings barely twitched — the leader's share settled into the high-30s and stayed there, almost motionless, for the remaining 196 days of the run.
900 million never opened real distance, because the poll's two biggest voting blocs wouldn't fall in line. United Kingdom and United States, tied as the largest country contingents at 36 votes each, both leaned toward 9 billion. That dissent kept the runner-up within reach, and the final margin came down to just 37 votes — 36.1% to 35.1%.
- 13-Day Lock · 900 million grabbed the lead for good by day 13 and it held.
- One-Point Finish · 36.1% to 35.1% — just 37 votes separated the top two.
- UK & US Dissent · The poll's two biggest voting blocs both leaned toward the runner-up.
