Ask 2,423 Wizard101 players how they found the game, and one answer never left first place: commercial advertising. It opened with roughly half the vote and closed the same way, at 45.5% — nearly double the next-closest source, and 518 votes ahead of "your friend."
The gender split cuts sharp: commercial and online plugs skew male (63% and 65% male), while children-driven referrals ran 83% female. Word of mouth still had real muscle — friends alone out-polled parents, coworkers, and grown children combined, by more than two to one.
