But the cushion didn't hold: by the finish, "Yes, but only if free" had squeezed the gap down to 1.9 points — 1,160 votes to 1,109, a 51-vote difference out of 2,697 cast.

That's erosion, not a swing. The frontrunner's share slid steadily from 49% down to 43% as the poll aged, while free-download support held firm near 41% the whole way through. Paying outright stayed a minority position throughout — 9.6% would buy it, 6.3% said no flat out — both dwarfed by the ownership question deciding the real contest.
