In a Facebook poll of 7,631 respondents, 25.8% chose “محمد البرادعي”. How we count
Amr Moussa opened strong, holding the top spot through day 8. Then chaos: the lead flipped between Shafik and ElBaradei ten separate times in five weeks, trading the top spot back and forth as if neither could shake the other. By day 35, ElBaradei finally broke free — and held first place uninterrupted for the remaining 134 days, stretching his margin to a comfortable 26%.
The country data splits sharply: Egypt itself, the biggest single source of votes, actually favored Shafik. But nearly every other country on the board — the US, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, the UK, Canada — broke for ElBaradei instead. Shafik also pulled Egypt's most balanced coalition: 39% of his votes came from women, well above any other finalist's female share.
- 10 Lead Changes · Moussa, Shafik and ElBaradei traded first place ten times before day 35.
- Day 35 Turning Point · ElBaradei grabbed the lead for good and cruised to a 25.8% finish.
- Egypt vs. Everywhere Else · Egypt itself leaned Shafik while nearly every other country leaned ElBaradei.
- Shafik's Female Edge · 39% of Shafik's votes were women, the highest share among top finishers.
