In a Facebook poll of 3,588 respondents, 15.3% chose “Iris Pérez, Señora Amazonas”. How we count

Share: ···

Iris Pérez grabbed the lead on day 2 and never had to defend it — but look at what she actually won: 15.3% of the vote, in a field so crowded that finishing fourth took just 7.3%. Fourteen other contenders split the rest into slivers, several barely clearing 2%.

This wasn't a coronation, it was a plurality squeezing through a fractured room. Venezuela's own voters — the largest single bloc, 128 votes — backed Amazonas, but everywhere else scattered thin: the U.S. block leaned Lara, and stray votes from Spain, Canada, the UK and beyond each found a different favorite among the 26 names on the ballot.

  • Winning margin · Iris Pérez won with just 15.3% — barely a plurality
  • Fast freeze · Standings locked in by day 2 and barely moved for 29 more days
  • Home turf · Venezuela's 128 votes leaned Amazonas; the diaspora scattered elsewhere
