For six of eight days Škofijska gimnazija Antona Martina Slomška Maribor held the lead, out front by as much as 54% early on. Gimnazija Celje - Center clawed closer each day until day 7, when the tally turned in its favor for good — a swing that carried through to the finish for a final gap of just 80 votes out of 4356 cast.

The split ran along borders: Slovenia's 3,309 voters, the poll's backbone, broke for Celje, but Croatia, Austria, Italy and Czechia all leaned Škofijska instead — a foreign-vote pocket that kept the race unsettled until the very end.
