In spite of the fact that we have been holding our annual charity event for the kids at Shriners Hospitals for Children for 32 years now, the Montpelier city council has approved the farmers market permit to set up on State Street blocking our regular access to the State House. Someone, not us, changed our application and wants us to start around an hour and a half later. What are your thoughts?

The NHS is considering creating a new type of health professional, bridging the gap between a Healthcare Assistants and Registered Nurses to help reduce growing workloads. This new type of staff would do some of the tasks currently done by fully qualified nurses after 18-24 months’ training, less than the three years needed to get a nursing degree and could become known as “nurse associates”. Do you agree with this proposal or not?

The NUH Trust has tabled a proposal for what it terms a ‘Flexible’ Public Holiday on Monday 28th December. What they want is for staff to volunteer to work on this public holiday to provide a service that is not routinely provided and those staff who work will be given another day off at a later date, but they would not be paid the unsocial hours for working the public holiday. Effectively, the Trust is suggesting that our members give up a bank holiday, work for a flat rate, and have a day off later. UNISON have, of course, opposed the idea. Are you in favour of the Trust's proposal?
