In a Facebook poll of 3,465 respondents, 41.2% chose “Debió haber sido otro”. How we count
"Debió haber sido otro" opened at 50% on day one and never dropped below 41% across 176 days — not a single rival option ever got within striking distance. But the scale cuts both ways: 1,429 votes is a commanding plurality, yet the other three options combined pull 2,036, meaning most voters actually disagreed. The verdict held anyway.
The anti-decision was a women's movement more than a men's one. Women picked "debió haber sido otro" over "muy buena" by roughly 2 to 1 (114 vs. 57), while men split almost evenly between the two (56 vs. 48). Geography split too: Chile and Central America backed the complaint, but U.S. voters broke the other way, leaning "muy buena."
- Stuck at 41% · Leader's share barely moved from day 1 to day 176
- Women drove it · Women favored the anti-verdict 2-to-1; men split evenly
- U.S. bucked the trend · American voters leaned "muy buena" while Chile leaned against
- Plurality, not majority · 59% of votes went to the other three options combined
